This is a good product! If you are attempting a THRU HIKE, I would seriously recommend saving money and purchasing the model below this for much cheaper. Or perhaps a ZOLEO. You will not use GPS/CHECK INS or weather checks/texts as much as you would expect.

I finally shelled out for a bit of peace of mind in the back country. While reasonably priced in the black colour, I have a few minor criticisms. The reliance on a cell phone to make the system more than a basic personal EPIRB, is great, but not what I'd call intuitive in function.

I bought the Garmin InReach Mini 2 for an extended canoeing trip. It functioned well and was helpful in route finding and getting weather updates. The Garmin explore app on a synched device is fairly easy to use. Three issues preculded a higher rating: 1) The menu seems unnecessarily complicated.

This worked so well for us to have as an emergency communication option, AND as a way for family and friends to track our progress on a 3 week road trip into some really remote areas. One thing I wish was easier/better was pairing it with our phones.
