I’ve used this unit for about 6 months and it got the job done. There was a lot to desire, especially since it was a little on the heavy side. The overall texture and feel was decent, but the battery life was low, even with the extended batter.

This is our new workhorse for remote users. I also have one that I use daily. The build feels a little plasticy and the laptop is very heavy compared to comparable HP or Lenovo machines. That being said, mine has a 4th gen i5, 8gb of RAM and an SSD, so it is an excellent performer.

Pros: The SSD drive and the I5 chip are a great combo making this system very fast. I got a 6.6 windows experience index and the system was clocked at 22 seconds from running to down to back up during the restart.
Cons: Didn't come with a Windows 7 disc as hoped and described but I had one filed away and was able to get the computer back down to Windows 7. Not the easiest of transitions, but there are instructions available.

The Dell Latitude e5540 is the base model laptop we deploy. So far we have had less problems and services calls on this model vs. its predecessor. This baseline business class laptop has HDMI and it look sharp when plugged into a TV.

We were really impressed when we opened the box. The computer has a lot of aesthetically pleasing qualities, the overall quality is comparable to similar computers, and we are thinking of making this our top candidate for replacing older computers.
