Three decades as a children's librarian in South America and the US, coupled with the personal advantage of being a multi-lingual/multi-cultural person as myself is powerful. Tangible benefits of bilingualism have played out over time for each of my own children, so I also coach my grandchildren in the same way. Why? Because everyone can reap these advantages! I have always loved a good story, and spent decades listening, telling, reading and writing them with children. Most of my stories were inspired by my children's adventures and they deserve nothing less than to be remembered. What better way to preserve them than to write them? So few bilingual children's books were available to us in South America when my children were small, seeing their stories in writing became motivation for them to learn to read. My hope is to offer that same advantage to other children learning to read in either language. Children everywhere have been my best editors as their own retellings lead to more humorous twists and better surprise endings. My only goal has been to make learning more fun for children.
