Fr. Martin Jugie (1878-1954), a leading Marian scholar of the twentieth century, served as a major contributor to the definition of the dogma of the Assumption. An Assumptionist priest, scholar, and teacher, he authored more than 250 books and articles. Fr. Jugie's definitive work Theologia dogmatica christianorum orientalium (Dogmatic theology of Oriental Christians) is considered a theological "summa."
