H. P. Lovecraft spent his life in obscurity, publishing mostly in the pulp magazine "Weird Tales", and died in poverty. Recognition came only after death. He has influenced numerous writers, musicians, and film makers including Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, William S. Burroughs, Ramsay Campbell and Caitlín R. Kiernan. Indeed, the prolific Stephen King calls Lovecraft "the twentieth century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale."

Howard Phillips "H. P." Lovecraft (August 20, 1890-March 15, 1937) was an American author who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction. Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now widely seen as one of the most significant 20th century authors in his genre.
