More than anything, Peter the little sunflower wants to be chosen.

Every week, while the little children skip through the flower field, looking for the perfect bunch to bring to church, Peter wonders if he'll ever be picked. He hopes his own beauty will bring joy to Mama Mary.

Then one day, a storm rolls by leaving Peter with a broken stem and crushed leaves. Now a wilted flower, Peter knows he'll never be good enough for Mama Mary. That is, until a child skips his way and reminds him that even the broken can be beautiful.

Kinnane, Susan

Susan Kinnane is chief cook and bottle washer, baker & entrepreneur from Little Compton, RI. Peter the Little Sunflower is her first published book and she is proud to publish it alongside her daughter and illustrator, Janie Kinnane. Susan began writing Peter the Little Sunflower 19 years ago after being inspired by her son, Peter. Susan is currently studying to be a Functional Nutritionist and is enjoying life on her family farm alongside her husband, Chuck, 10 children, children's spouses and grandchildren. She wants everyone to know that the Blessed Virgin Mary is their Mother and that they are loved, unconditionally.

Kinnane, Janie

Janie Kinnane grew up in Little Compton, RI. Her natural artistic abilities were discovered early on and further encouraged through various mentors. When asked by her mother to collaborate on this project, Janie initiated a process of figuring out what medium would best encapsulate this story, which is set on their family farm. Through trial and error (and the help of local artist friends) Janie was introduced to zinc etching, which perfectly ties together her signature of block prints and watercolors to illustrate the beautiful message of this story. Janie's nieces and nephews, who brought inspiration and laughter to this process, are depicted throughout these illustrations.
