Descripción
This is the remarkable true story of a young British doctor who travels to humid, insect-infested Ecuador and sets up a village health centre and child sponsorship scheme. As you read this honest account you will laugh and cry with Andrea as she battles against endless bureaucracy and the confusion of living in an alien culture. You will feel as though you have travelled to the village and met the friends she makes there. Young, free and single, and dedicated to her mission, Andrea is certainly not expecting to encounter love. Should she open her heart? Or will doing so lead to an end of all her dreams? This is the unforgettable account of lives touched and changed by heartbreaking tragedy and the transforming power of God s redeeming love. The heart-stopping stories contained in this tapestry of despair and hope, loss and discovery will leave you inspired and challenged. "It's not easy to put this book down. It offers a colourful, insightful portrait of one woman's determination to make a difference in her world, regardless of cost. If you've ever been bored by the word 'missionary', then think again. This is the fascinating, inspiring account of a true adventurer. You'll love this - unless you're a guinea pig". Jeff Lucas, Author, Speaker, Broadcaster This edition is the second edition, with the minor errors present in the first edition now corrected.

Acerca del Autor
Andrea Gardiner grew up in Kent, UK, before heading to Edinburgh to study medicine. She trained as a General Practitioner in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and along the way completed a degree in Theology. In 2005 she left her homeland behind her and set off to Ecuador to work as a missionary doctor in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas. Her adventures there inspired her to write her first book, Guinea Pig for Breakfast. Andrea currently works for the Charity she set up, Project Ecuador, and continues to live in Ecuador with her husband Vladimir, and two young daughters. She loves swimming in the river at the bottom of their farm, watching the humming birds and stitching clothes for her daughters in her spare time. An average day for Andrea might now involve crossing tree trunk bridges to reach the home of a patient dying from cancer, taking soap and toothbrushes to poor children in a local village school, watching the iguanas sunbathing with her daughters, and then barbequing a tasty guinea pig for tea with her husband and his family.
